Sometimes we're not looking for the loudest sound or the bigger stay-alive - the customer of this 21pin Hornby King Class just
wanted straight-forward... and it really is that...
Unplug the mini connector from the tender to make it easier to handle. All the kit will go in the tender in this model.
Remove the DC blanking plate and we discover that this model has the 21pin socket designed in reverse to the normal orientation
- a careful check of where the missing index pin is confirms this. So our MS440 sound decoder will need to be plugged in
upside down compared to normal.
We have to remove the metal weight temporarily to insert the 28mm round 2W speaker, and solder its' wires to the speaker pads
at the back of the model's PCB (marked S1 and S2).
Plug in the decoder (upside down), wrap the sample 1000uF stay-alive cap in Kapton, and fix it down with a little BlackTack.
That's it! All done! Sure, you can do better than a round speaker with a little more effort, but this approach is so simple,
and doesn't actually sound too bad after all!
